The Newport Jazz Festival®, started in 1954, was the first jazz festival in America and served as the stage for legendary performances by Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and many others. In later years, artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Joshua Redman and Esperanza Spalding made major debuts on the Newport stage. Referred to as the grandaddy of all jazz festivals, the event draws thousands of people from all over the world to Newport, Rhode Island, a city which is famed in its own right for its spectacular coastal scenery and awe-inspiring architecture. Currently presented by Natixis Global Asset Management, the event is held over the course of three days at two of the city’s historic landmarks: the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino and Fort Adams State Park.
